Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe will miss the first leg of a Copa del Rey semifinal against Real Sociedad on Wednesday after having a tooth removed.

Madrid did not include Mbappe on the 21-play squad announced Wednesday morning. They will play Real Sociedad at 3:30 p.m. EST Wednesday in San Sebastian, Spain. Advertisement

Mbappe’s omission from the squad came a day after coach Carlo Ancelotti said Mbappe would travel and have “the chance to play.”

“He had a problem with his tooth, he couldn’t train [Tuesday], but he’ll travel [Wednesday], and everyone who travels has the chance to play,” Ancelotti said.

Mbappe totaled 14 goals so far in 2025 and 17 in 23 La Liga matches. Madrid also left goalie Thibaut Courtois and midfielder Federico Valverde off their roster for the first-leg of the Copa del Rey meeting.

Madrid will face Real Betis in a La Liga matchup at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Seville, Spain. It will host Atletico Madrid on Tuesday in Madrid.

Madrid and Real Sociedad will meet in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals April 1 in Madrid.
