The Football Association issued a two-game ban to Liverpool coach Arne Slot for improper behavior toward match officials after a recent draw with Everton, the governing body for English soccer announced Wednesday.

Slot also was fined nearly $90,000. Liverpool assistant Sipke Hulshoff received a two-game ban and a $9,000 fine for similar behavior. Advertisement

Liverpool and Everton were fined $82,000 and $63,000, respectively.

“It was alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or technical area occupants did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way following the final whistle,” the FA said in a news release.

The incident occurred after the Merseyside derby Feb. 12 in Liverpool.

Slot approached referee Michael Oliver after players engaged in a melee following the full-time whistle. Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure and Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones were sent off with red cards because of that scuffle.

Slot admitted to acting in an “improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behavior toward both the match referee and an assistant referee after the match had finished.” Hulshoff admitted to the same allegation.

Liverpool will play Newcastle in a Premier League match at 3:15 p.m. EST Wednesday in Liverpool. Everton will take on Brentford in a Premier League meeting at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Brentford. Advertisement
