Manchester City signed former Bournemouth Ghanaian winger Antoine Semenyo to a five-and-a-half year contract, the Sky Blues announced Friday.
Sources told ESPN, The Athletic and Sky Sports that the Sky Blues agreed to pay Bournemouth about $84 million, with $2 million in performance-related bonuses. Semenyo will be under contract with the Sky Blues through 2031.
“I am so proud to have joined Manchester City,” Semenyo said, according to ManCity.com. “I have watched City over the last decade under Pep Guardiola, and they have been the dominant team in the Premier League as well as achieving amazing things in the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.
“They have set the highest of standards and it’s a club with world-class players, world-class facilities and one of the greatest managers ever in Pep.”
He is expected to be available for the Sky Blues’ FA Cup matchup with EFL League One club Exeter City on Saturday in Manchester, England.
Semenyo, 26, started his senior career at Bristol City. He went on loan at Bath City, Newport County and Sunderland during his tenure with the EFL Championship club. He joined Bournemouth in 2023.
He scored 10 goals over 20 Premier League appearances this season. Semenyo netted 30 scores over 101 total Premier League matches for Bournemouth. He totaled 32 goals and 11 assists across all competitions.
Semenyo also totaled three scores over 32 appearances for the Ghana men’s national team.
“I’ve still got a lot of learning to do and joining City is going to be the best thing for my development,” Semenyo said. “The best coaches, [and] the best players will take my game to the next level.”
The Sky Blues (13-4-4) sit in second place in the Premier League standings, six points behind first-place Arsenal (15-2-4). They will host the Grecians at 10 a.m. EST Saturday at Etihad Stadium.
Sky Blues coach Pep Guardiola said he was not sure if he would start the FA Cup meeting. The Sky Blues will take on Newcastle in the EFL Cup on Tuesday in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.
