Liverpool will take on Paris Saint-Germain and reigning champion Real Madrid will play rival Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16, the draw revealed Friday in Nyon, Switzerland.

Bayern Munich will take on Bayer Leverkusen in an All-German matchup. Arsenal will face PSV Eindhoven. Barcelona will play Benfica in the Round of 16. Advertisement

Inter Milan will take on Feyenoord. Borussia Dortmund will meet Lille. Club Brugge will face Aston Villa.

The meetings will be decided in a two-legged format, with first-leg matches set for March 4 and 5. Second-leg matches will be held March 11 and 12.

“As is the case with ourselves, PSG are top of their domestic league and are enjoying a long unbeaten run,” Liverpool coach Arne Slot said, according to LiverpoolFC.com. “This tells us all that we need to know about the challenge that we will face but it is also a challenge that we will look forward to, knowing that we also fully deserve to be in the last 16.

“Of course, our immediate focus is on our upcoming Premier League fixtures, starting with Manchester City on Sunday, but we will be doing everything we can to ensure that we are in the best possible shape when the Champions League resumes.”

The draw sets up potential quarterfinal meeting between PSG or Liverpool against Aston Villa or Club Brugge. Real Madrid or Athletic will face Arsenal or PSV in the quarterfinals. The winners from those two quarterfinals will meeting in a semifinal.

“We have two very close and tough games ahead of us,” Madrid director of institutional relations Emilio Butragueno said. “In the first match at the Bernabéu we are relying on our fans and on getting a result that will allow us to defend it in the second and reach the quarterfinals.

“We have to play two magnificent matches because of the category of our opponents, but we have full confidence in our players and their ability to overcome all the difficulties.”

Inter Milan or Feyenoord will take on Bayern or Leverkusen in the quarterfinals. Barcelona or Benfica will battle Dortmund or Lille in another quarterfinal. The winners from those quarterfinals will appear in the other semifinal.

The Champions League final will be May 31 at Allianz Arena in Munich.
