Chelsea signed captain Reece James to a six-year extension, keeping him under contract until 2032, the Premier League soccer team announced Friday.
James’ previous pact was set to expire in 2028. The 26-year-old right back/midfielder made his senior team debut for the Blues in 2018.
“I am over the moon to have extended my contract — Chelsea means so much to me,” James told ChelseaFC.com. “I have always said I want my peak years to be here, and I truly believe we have everything it takes to build on our previous successes.
“I’m excited for the future under this ownership, sporting directors, coach and all the staff, and hopefully we will lift many more trophies together over the coming years.”
James has appeared in more than 200 games for the Blues and helped them win the 2021 Champions League and 2025 Club World Cup.
The Blues (13-7-9) sit in fifth place in the Premier League standings, three points back of third-place Manchester United and Aston Villa. THey are 12 points behind second-place Manchester City and 19 points back of first-place Arsenal.
The Blues host 12th place Newcastle (11-12-6) at 1:30 p.m. EDT Saturday at Stamford Bridge in London.
