Chelsea, Raheem Sterling agree to mutual split

Chelsea and winger Raheem Sterling agreed to a mutual split, ending his contract, the Blues announced Wednesday.

Sterling, 31, spent last season on loan at Arsenal. He joined the Blues in 2022 and had one year remaining on his contract. He is now a free agent.

“All eyes on the future,” Sterling wrote on his Instagram story. “God is great.”

Sterling totaled 19 goals and 12 assists over 81 appearances for the Blues. He last played for the Blues in 2024. His last competitive match for Arsenal was the Gunners’ 2024-25 season finale.

“We thank Raheem for the contribution he made while a Chelsea player and wish him well for the next stage in his career,” the Blues said in a statement.

Sterling logged a goal and five assists over 28 appearances for the Gunners. He totaled 131 scores and 74 assists over 338 appearances at Manchester City. Sterling found the net 22 times and totaled 16 assists over 119 appearances at Liverpool, where he started his senior career.

Sterling also 20 goals over 82 appearances for England’s national team.

The Gunners (15-3-5) remain the top team in the Premier League standings, four points ahead of second-place Manchester City (14-5-4). The Blues (10-6-7) sit in fifth place, 13 points behind the Gunners.

The Blues will take on Napoli in a Champions League match at 3 p.m. EST Wednesday in Naples, Italy. The Gunners will host Kairat in another Champions League league phase match at 3 p.m. Wednesday in London.
